UWPC & Community Members
A group of community residents in partnership with United Way of Payne County are helping with reading literacy among children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
This program is a book gifting program for children from birth to the age of 5. All books received are free no matter the family’s income and are mailed directly to their home. The goals of this program are to improve upon educational and social outcomes by investment in early literacy, increasing the presence of books in the home, and supporting parent/caregiver involvement in child development. With the help of the Small Project; Vibrant Impact Grant, 1300 children received books in January! For more information or to sign a child up visit

Women with Spines
A book club of Stillwater women, named their group ‘Women with Spines’, and came up with a creative, outdoor adventure for the residents of Stillwater. With a Small Project, Vibrant Impact Grant, they were able to bring this idea to life working with three local artists. This adventure is similar to geocaching as participants search the town for 12 metal Bigfoots. Clues were provided on March 1st and can be located on their website https://stillybigfoot.com under the ‘Hunt’ tab. The goal is to get people outside, enjoying the beautiful weather and exploring the incredible town of Stillwater. So, take pictures with them when you find them and post on your social media with #stillybigfoot. The group plans to set them out in different locations with different clues each spring, so please don’t kidnap them!
People for Vibrant Downtown
People for A Vibrant Downtown recognized that the Stillwater downtown corridor is under incredible development and the community is engaging with our downtown businesses at a record pace. With that, there are few downtown storefronts that are vacant. Their proposal was to decorate a few Main Street windows of unoccupied buildings to bring additional vibrancy and color to the downtown experience.
With their Small Project, Vibrant Impact Grant they commissioned Erin Baird is an experienced graphic designer, muralist, and artist. Driven by a desire to cultivate beauty in her surroundings and connect with her community through art, she takes pride in providing unique and memorable mural and design services.
Concept description: This large format mural was inspired by Oklahoma’s ecological history. The brick building’s faded, rusty red paint is representative of the sandy clay soil in this region. The windows are flanked by two of Oklahoma’s most iconic trees, the Cherokee Sand Plum and the Eastern Redbud, both of which thrive in the sandy, clay soils of Payne County. The Cherokee plum, (or sand plum), was originally cultivated by Native Americans before the arrival of Europeans.
The mural is on the windows of the original Lytton Building located at 907 S. Main Street. The building served at the Masonic Hall from October 30, 1901 until February 17, 1950. The original lodge building was shared by a number of groups in Stillwater during that time.
OSU Department of Wellness
The OSU Department of Wellness delivered personal health and hygiene products to Will Rogers Elementary School and Stillwater Junior High School on November 1st, 2022. Items were made possible with the $750 Small Project, Vibrant Impact Grant. According to Dr. Kari Pratt, Assistant Director, personal health and well-being are key components to a vibrant community! This project goal was to provide that for students at Stillwater Public Schools. “We want to insure basic needs are met, so students are able to focus on academic and personal success.”
